Selection Process

Individuals Eligible for Nomination

  • All non-probationary departmental staff 0.5 FTE or greater are eligible.
  • Staff must have a “meets expectations” or higher on their last performance review and who are not on corrective action.  The department administrator will review these criteria and report eligibility to the five-person committee. 
  • The recipient must be employed within the School of Law at the time the award is presented; otherwise, the award will be presented to the next runner up.

Ineligible Nominations

  • Self-nominations are not accepted.
  • Recipients of the awards are ineligible for nomination are eligible for nomination again after a waiting period of one calendar year.  To view the list of recipients please click here.
  • Members of the current Rewards and Recognition committee are ineligible for nomination, and also cannot submit nominations.
  • Only one employee can be nominated per nomination form.  A form that nominates multiple staff members and/or departments or teams is automatically rejected.  If you would like to nominate a team or department please consider acknowledging them personally.  This informal recognition does not need to be processed through the Rewards & Recognition Committee.

Selection Process

All formal awards will result from an open and competitive process.

  • Information and reminders about the recognition program will be ongoing throughout the year and will be sent via email to law school and IPL faculty, students, and staff.
  • Nominations will be solicited and forwarded to the Rewards and Recognition Committee at least one month prior to the presentation of the awards.
  • The nomination form will be available electronically.
  • The nomination form should be addressed to the Rewards and Recognition Committee. Nominations should specifically address the recognition criteria and should include specific examples of how the nominee demonstrated those characteristics.
  • Multiple nominations for an employee during an award cycle must be scored separately, and then all scores averaged.
  • The committee will conduct the screening process, will evaluate the nominees, and will recommend a recipient. The committee will ensure the selected employee meets the eligibility criterion. In the event that the winner is not eligible, the award will be given to the next runner-up.
  • The committee will submit the name of the winner(s) to the Law School Dean for final approval.
  • The awards will be presented each year, one at a spring staff event (April), the other at the winter holiday gathering (December).
