Smartphone Support

Smartphones and other handheld devices are becoming indispensable tools for busy law school faculty, staff and students. As you would expect, this has led to growing numbers of individuals asking whether the law school IT personnel can provide tech support for their personal Smartphones and other devices and whether IT personnel can help them synchronize their Smartphones with their law school Outlook account. The large number of makes, models and operating systems on handheld devices pose a significant obstacle to IT’s ability to provide consistent levels of support for Smartphones.

IT personnel are committed to doing what they can to help faculty and senior administrators synchronize their Smartphones with their Outlook accounts. However, due to limited personnel resources, IT cannot install client (workstation) syncing software for students or staff.

It is anticipated that in the coming months (hopefully not years) the Law School will enjoy more robust messaging options that are expected to soon be made available to all campus units by central IT. When that happens, some of the current barriers to seamless use of Smartphones to access email, calendar and contacts should begin to disappear.
