Computer Security & Maintenance
Protecting Your Computer
You can protect your computer from viruses and spyware by using a combination of applications.
Firewall
A firewall prevents unauthorized access to your computer. Firewalls are available from a variety of sources and are often "freeware" or "shareware"; newer versions of Microsoft Windows come with a firewall as part of the operating system.
Virus Protection
The University provides Symantec antivirus software at no cost to students, faculty and staff. See http://it.unm.edu/security/sepfaq.html for more information.
Main campus IT provides additional information on protecting your computer from viruses and malware here: http://it.unm.edu/security/index.html
