The Committee

Each year a Recognition & Rewards committee is formed by representatives of all levels within the law school. Staff members who have served on the Recognition & Rewards Committee are ineligible to serve again in the following year.

The committee shall make recommendations regarding the Formal Award Program policies and procedures to the Dean. They shall ensure that the program is promoted throughout the law school. They shall review all nomination forms submitted and recommend award recipients to the Dean, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained throughout the process. They shall assist with the event planning and recognition ceremonies.

The committee composition will include all award winners from the previous year, one award winner from the year before the previous year/or a staff volunteer, an award winner from the previous year, and the department administrator (ex-officio, non-voting).  If previous winners are unavailable due to separation, retirement, etc., the committee should seek to balance the committee membership with one staff each from the Law Library, the Institute for Public Law, and the Law School. Total membership of the committee should be five people. New committee members will serve at the request of the Dean, upon the recommendation of the law school Staff Advisory Committee. The members of the first established recognition committee will be appointed by the Dean of the Law School.

The R&R Committee also includes an ex officio member who serves in an advisory role, which is the Law School administrator/senior manager who oversees staff personnel. This member provides institutional knowledge and advice on procedures as they relate to UNM and Law School personnel and staff rewards practices.  After the nominating period ends, the R&R committee forwards the names of all nominees to the ex officio member who determines if nominees are eligible for the award(s) based on employee probationary status, FTE status, recent  performance evaluation on file, and lack of disciplinary actions.  The ex officio member does not review, evaluate, provided feedback on, or vote on the nominations.  After voting, the committee forwards the results to the ex officio member who will place the written nominations in the employee’s files.  This role does not restrict the ex officio member from nominating and/or being nominated for formal recognition.

The committee reserves the right to reject for consideration any and all nominations that do not adequately address the formal recognition criteria.
